Description

Picking a single image to represent the work of any photographer is a challenge, but doubly so for the brilliant and diverse Rowland Sherman. As a photographer for Life Magazine and as the official photographer for the newly formed Peace Corps and the March on Washington, Scherman covered the breadth of the 1960s, from protests to Woodstock, the Kennedys to Tim Leary. He had exceptional range. Rather than select one of his iconic images, we opted for this quiet portrait of the blues man Mississippi John Hurt.
