Fifty Photographs: selections from SCUA collections

Ellen Fuller Channing

by Southworth and Hawes. ca.1853

Ellen Fuller Channing was sister of the Transcendentalist writer and feminist, Margaret Fuller, and wife of the poet William Ellery Channing. Although the photographer is not identified, the image bears the stylistic hallmark of the most skilled Boston daguerretypists, Albert Southworth and Josiah Hawes, who were recoreded as having photographed both her husband and brother-in-law.
