Fifty Photographs: selections from SCUA collections

Going up the country

by Roy Finestone, 1969

The details of communal, back-to-the-land living surely swing between pastoral idylls and natural disaster. This scene tends toward the latter: a sunny day, and room to roam. The ladders in the foreground, perhaps left in the field to await their next project, point back towards the Montague Farmhouse and barn. The photographer, Roy Finestone, is the father of commune resident Nina (Finestone) Keller.
